This plugin is half joke and half social experiment. (Being snowed in for days makes you do strange things)
Minecraft Hashtags is a plugin that will detect hashtags in chat messages (ex. #Minecraft), highlight them and then reports back to a server that keeps track of the trending tags. Located here: mchashtags.aaronshea.me
How to use: Place the jar file into your plugins folder to install. Reload or restart your bukkit server and the plugin will activate. The plugin will automatically recognize hashtags in a user's chat message and record it. Only one hashtag per message will be accepted. Hashtags are highlighted in blue when seen in the chat. Only hashtags that consist of more than two characters will be recorded (ex. #1 will not be recorded)
This is really a sort of trend social experiment that I am interested in seeing unfold.
I know that some think hashtags are annoying outside of Twitter, and, I do as well. But again, half joke, half experiment.
